This course takes Exercise Physiologists on a journey from the initial meeting of clients, how to interview and physically assess them, through to exercise prescription and delivery of the specific exercises needed to assist in the rehabilitation of shoulder injuries.
This highly interactive and practical course will teach you the important assessment skills required to effectively and individually design specific programs for clients with different shoulder conditions. You will learn how to assess clients thoroughly, choose the exercises needed to rehabilitate specific conditions and how to perform these exercises correctly. This course is highly practical and will give you all the skills and confidence you need to treat all shoulder conditions. During the course you will complete and understand all functional assessments of the shoulders necessary to understand the client’s condition and over 100+ exercises for the rehabilitation of the major shoulder pathologies.
Topics Covered include:
Interviewing Techniques – how to get all the necessary information from your client to enable you to program them effectively
Movement Analysis – you will be taught what to look for and why it is important
Understanding Pain – how to make sense of the pain experience that clients go through in relation to their shoulder symptoms. We look at the biological, psychological and social implications of pain and how to help your clients through the process as Exercise Physiologists
Understanding the human body and how it moves – a look at the connections of the body that are important to movement
Shoulder Pathologies and their Contraindications
Assessment Strategies for Shoulder Conditions – a different way of looking at the human body
Exercise Techniques and Methods – you will spend an entire day performing corrective exercises for different shoulder pathologies

Presented by Mark Goswell
Mark has specialised in Exercise Physiology since 2000, developing areas of expertise in the Workers Compensation Scheme and he specialises in the rehabilitation of injuries to the lower back, shoulders, neck and knees. He has extensive experience in dealing with clients with complex neural and musculoskeletal conditions and has an interest in assisting clients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression in coping with their condition through the use of effective exercise techniques. Mark is an expert at prescribing exercises focusing on increased functional strength, progression of core control and improved mobility.
He was one of the first Exercise Physiologists to become accredited with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) in Newcastle. He has assisted clients with Muscular Dystrophy, Cerebral Palsy, Stokes, Acquired Brain Injuries, Amputation, Paraplegia, Autism and Gillian Barre Syndrome, by way of improving and managing their conditions.
Mark is an educator, writing and delivering courses to Exercise Physiologists around Australia on Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation techniques, including assessment procedures and exercise prescription. Due to his extensive knowledge on musculoskeletal rehabilitation he has been invited to speak at Government agencies and private companies on manual handling techniques, stress management strategies and injury management.
