Diabetes Group Program

ProActive Rehabilitation and Health offers a specific Diabetes Group Program at Adamstown and East Maitland. The program is a circuit style program that is fun and effective in reducing the effects of Type II Diabetes in a supportive environment with likeminded people.

For those living with diabetes regular exercise plays a pivotal role to:

  • Improve your body’s sensitivity to insulin which makes your insulin work more efficiently.
  • Assist with controlling your blood glucose.
  • Reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.

What our Diabetes Program looks like:

During your initial consultation, one of our Exercise Physiologists will get to know you and if you have any diabetes complications that may need to be considered prior to commencing an exercise program. We then measure those modifiable health factors that are associated with diabetes so we can track your progress. From here, you participate in a circuit program that is designed by our Exercise Physiologists to ensure you are exercising safely and effectively to achieve your metabolic health goals.

Your package includes 2 one-hour circuit classes per week, which ensures the most effective dose of exercise required for long-term sustainable outcomes to maintain quality of life and independence.

Why should I Exercise with an Exercise Physiologist?

Our experienced Exercise Physiologists are highly knowledgeable when it comes to screening and managing the key risk factors associated with diabetes and exercise. This includes close consideration of the type of medication you are taking to manage your diabetes, and make sure you are not exercising too soon after taking a rapid-acting insulin. We can also help you screen your glucose and ketone levels to ensure you are safe to exercise each session. Our circuits are designed to meet the needs of the individual, which means we make appropriate adjustments to your exercise sessions and tailor the intensity to meet your capabilities.
